The Nativo Lodge got a makeover some time ago. Michael Toya, a Jemez Pueblo artist, worked for months to complete these impressive large scale, five story murals all around the outside of the hotel and he also designed one of the Artist Rooms inside the hotel. One the front page of the website linked above there is a video of Mr. Toya explaining his design and the meaning behind his designs.

The hotel has a variety of accommodations with the most exciting being Artist Rooms. According to the hotel, “We have commissioned Native American contemporary artists to transform our guest rooms into large-scale, livable installation works of art. These artist rooms offer our guests a lodging experience unlike anything else in the world.”

I have never stayed at this hotel but if I were in need of a local hotel for whatever reason I would definitely want to check it out.
