I see trees growing in cracks in cement or concrete and wonder sometimes. Also see them growing in evespouts. I guess they get enough nutrients washed in to survive.
The tenacity of plant life sometimes is more than amazing. The way in which foliage manages to survive in an urban landscape in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the world is fascinating. I like it! And, of course, in a natural setting such as in your photo, it is quite beautiful.
Just look at all those cracks between rocks — a great place for roots to creep way down. Also a great place for concentrating the rain or melt water. I live on a granite hillside with soil all of 6 inches deep — and yet I have trees that are prospering, even though it’s next to impossible to grow everyday flowers.
