“Pieta Suroeste, or Southwest Pieta, depicts an ancient Aztec myth that is much like a Romeo-and-Juliette story: an Aztec maiden, believing that her beloved has been killed in battle, takes her own life. He returns, and mourns her death. This Pieta Suoreste is a variation of the classic pieta, the Virgin Mary holding the dead Christ on her lap.” (https://www.flickr.com/photos/abqpublicart/2534006459)
