This humongous arrow, aside from being a conversation stimulator and fabulous landmark when giving directions, has no real purpose! It has been here since I moved to Albuquerque in 1990! It is located on the northwest corner of Indian School Road and Carlisle Blvd.

2006-09-02 12:47Probably has something to do with the fact that New Mexico has a fair sized population of indigenous Americans. They probably wouldn’t allow it to be built today. Speaking of American Indians, are they still holding the intertribal festival at Red Rock? I was there in 1974!!

2006-09-05 15:38Marie, yes the Intertribal Festival is in August! There is an even larger one in Albuquerque in April. Called the Gathering of Nations!
Kris, yes it is in front of a strip mall. But the arrow was there first!
John… that must have been a big spot! LOL
Stefan, I don’t think they have a box long enough to ship it in!
Thanks all of you for visiting Albuquerque DP!

2006-09-08 00:47I just had to look it up:
“Why does the shopping center at Indian School and Carlisle have a giant arrow?
Indian plaza, built in 1961, gained its trademark arrow because developer Elmer Sproul’s logo was an arrow. ”
I love the photo!
